Black Angel is a black sour ale aged on 1.5 pounds per gallon of tart Montmorency cherries. Nearly 10 months of bourbon barrel-aging and artful blending reveal a dark, complex and enrapturing sour ale.

375mL bottle pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a dirty white head of foam. The aroma offers up sour notes, some sour grains, cherry nuanced dark roasted malts and smooth modest smokiness. The taste has tart notes getting into lime, lemon and soured citrus. These notes get into a bit of juiciness before smooth subtle smoke comes forward into the finish.

RBWG 2014 Dark brown pour with a tan head. Tart, fruity aroma. The flavor is tart but not overly sour. Cherry, Belgian funky yeast notes and enough underlying sweetness to balance this one nicely.

Draft at brewpub. Label thanks to Bobby. Pours dark red. Nose and taste of cherry skin, oak, tart cherry, vanilla and touch of pie crust. Mild acidity. Medium body. Good balance.

Draft - Light dark berry and bourbon barrel notes. Cloudy maroon with a thin beige head. Light berry and bourbon notes. Light tartness with a clean finish. A great gateway sour.

On tap @ Wicked Weed. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a thin tan head. Caramel, roasted aroma with cherries and tannins. A bit juicy flavor. Graham cracker / toffee, pie cherry flavor. Interesting but not my favorite.

Draft at the downstairs tasting room. Pours a dark brown color with no head. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits, light tartness. The taste is strong lactic notes, tart fruits, bourbon, chocolate. Medium bodied, lingering tartness. Very nice beer.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with a backing sour cherry note. Flavor starts with light roasted malts wait quickly becomes full of tart cherries with a touch of funk.
