On tap at APEX. Pours a dark brown color with a small white head. A big woody, cherry and bourbon nose. Tartness throughout, sweet and sour dark cherry, vanilla, light roast. Very flavorful. Works pretty well. Light lactic flavors, more roast and vanilla.

Location: Draft at the Wicked Weed Funkatorium, 1/2/15

Aroma: Sour dark malts, some vanilla and bourbon notes, and a light fruit character
Appearance: The pour is black, without much head or lace on it
Flavor: It has a dark malt and sour flavor, light bourbon, light fruitiness
Palate: Medium bodied, lively carbonation, but not unpleasantly so
Overall Impression: I can see why this is as popular as it is, it does what it is trying to do nicely.

Refrigerated 0.5 L brown bottle poured into a glass. Black with small crimson highlight and medium light brown head. Aroma is light cherry, medium body, medium carbonation, and some thin small-bubble lacing. Taste is plums, some tartness, some oak, some roasted malt, and some cherry. Pretty good, but the cherry is fairly subtle.

Tasting at Jack’s RAH Annexe! Thanks to Jack. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and crisp. Light fresh fruit battles seltzer and tang. Dry finish. It’s okay.

Nose is red berry fruits, tangy dark fruit vibes, fruit loaf, dark toffee notes, lightly citric tinged straw. Taste comprises dark red berry fruit, tangy cherry skins, spice, brown bread, dark caramel, dank wood vibes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent dark sour.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Jack. Pours clear, rich brown with a frothy tan head. The nose has toasty brown bread, cherries, other dried fruits, a bit of wood, earth. Light-medium sweet flavor, a little oily, with burnt leaves and earth, old fruits, wood, grainy bread. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly drying on the finish, mildly tannic, dried berries, some funk, sweat, mild acetic bite. Nice beer.

Bottle big thanks to Jack. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is juicy, jammy, cherry, candy, wood, vanilla, sticky and treacle. The taste is crisp, tart, tangy, acidic, cherry, green apple, wood, lemon sherbet and lactic, with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Nice balance. Rather drinkable.
