A festival of English flavours featuring spice, nuttiness and caramel, nicely balanced with a mellow hoppiness. Pours dark amber with a deliciously dense creamy head and a warming malt aroma.

Half of cask at the Hitchin Beer Festival. I was in the mood for something old school so ordered this. And wasn't disappointed. Rich malts with bitter hops, but an emphasis on the malt. Going on sweet, which is why I scored it lower.

Rocky off white head on a clear chestnut coloured body.
Toffee & tobacco aroma.
Medium bodied, smooth thinning out to a clean back.
Toffee, malt, spiced & nutty tastes with a fruity finish.
Boring.

Isle Of Wight Holiday Beer#97. Amber coloured with a decent head. Crisp hoppy-sugary beer, there's a lot of the latter in both aroma and taste. It's tasty enough for it though.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – just vague hints of treacle and biscuits. In the mouth it is quite sweet with a creamy texture and flavours of toffee, fudge, nuts and malts. A little spice comes through later leading to a slightly bitter finish. This is a decent premium bitter.

Almost clear deep amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Smooth and light palate, decent minerally carbonation coming through on the back end. Smooth malts, a little creamy sweetness and a decent amount of caramel, mild creamy nuttiness underneath. Soft and mild esters in the mid. The back end is ripeish fruits and a whisper of marmalade. Comes together very well into a light finish. Just a very well layered trad English brew. Tasty and drinkable.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A bright amber pour with a tight cream coloured head; malty aroma; thick and oily in the mouth with a malty taste and a little spice; then a doughy rye bread finish. A satisfying, old fashioned, English ale.
