This hearty brown ale is named for its original brewer - our awesome Beerman Chad Opfer.
Smoove Opferator started out as a very small experiment taproom-exclusive brown ale named “Brown Sugar.” Since then, it has undergone a name makeover and an expanded distribution to Iowa and Wisconsin. The taste is still the same as when we brewed the first small batch.
Deep mahogany color with a hefty malt body. Robust flavors of roasted almonds, hints of chocolate with a slight bitterness in the finish. Oh so smoove!

Bottle shared. Very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of cocoa, caramel, nutty notes, roast and biscuit. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with near flat carbonation. Decent beer and I’m digging the cocoa but nothing exciting. Would be something I’d quite happily session down the pub though if it wasn’t a normally inaccessible TG..

Bomber courtesy of and shared with Kermis. No head or carbonation. Clear almost black pour. Lots of chocolate. Nice brew

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, unreadable date stamp on the shoulder. Pours clear nearly opaque very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent roasty brown ale style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. This felt more like a brown porter with the balanced dark/bready and roasted malt flavors; but was still a very enjoyable offering regardless.

Pours a deep brown with little head. Aroma of roasted grain, coffee, burnt chocolate. Flavor is marked by chocolate, coffee, roasted grain, nuts. Really is very smooth and sweet. Pretty tasty.

Nice balance. Light roast, some light chocolate. Dark pour with ok head and lacing. Light bitter sour finish. Bottle thanks to Gene at tasting a while back.

Bottle: Very dark brown with a small tan head. Dark chocolate, coffee....roast and a bit of smoke. Taste is almost porter-like, coffee bitter, chocolate malt. Really robust.....an excellent tasting beer.

Bottle. Light smoky coffee, chocolate malt, and fresh hay aroma. Dark brown with small tan head. Lightly sweet//smoky coffee, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Body a bit light.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of light roasted malts, peanuts and dark grains with a bit of cookie supporting. Flavor has a combination of nuttiness and dark grains with a hint of roast and nutmeg underlying.

Tap at the brewery. Murky brown pour. Nose is cocoa and coffee. Tastes of autocrat coffee syrup for my RI brethren, also cocoa powder, root beer, earth, and brown sugar. Rich flavor profile medium bodied. Very enjoyable brown.
