Mug Bitter is a top fermented, amber-coloured beer of 5% ABY, made from pale malt and Caramalt 20 and richly hopped with Hallertau, Goldings and Challenger hops.
The beer's character is best expressed in the old saying: "Geen smaeck zo soet als 't Zeeuwse Bitter doet" (Nothing tastes as sweet as the Bitter from Zeeland).
Its hoppy and fruity aroma and well-balanced bittersweet flavour places this beer in a league of its own!
Mug Bitter ... Much Better!

(Draught at Delirium Hoppy Loft, Brussels, 22 Oct 2014) Golden amber colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with grainy malt, bread and a touch of dried fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of grainy malt, apricots, hints of toast and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and highly drinkable. Quite nice.

Tap. Clear golden with medium white head. Grassy and herbal bitterness with also some I ripe vegetables. Light sweet malts with dry eye touch. Medium bodied. Quite bitter but not too much else. Ok

Bitter beer since 1988 for De Mug, at first brewed at ’t IJ but since 1997 at Scheldebrouwerij, when it was still settled in the Netherlands. Creamy, off-white head, murky ochre blonde colour with orange glow. Malty and yeasty character, pleasant fruitiness, bready and honeyish, but primarily grassy (Saaz) and peppery (Spalt) hops. Fruity, soft malty onset, making place for a very assertive, resinous, spicy, sticky, long hop bitterness. More a kind of session IPA than a traditional English bitter, as it is apparently classified here.

Regular bitter beer. Not very special, but thirst quenching and fresh. Liked it.
