[ Long•har•ich taugh ] 1. (literally) long-haired scum 2. (slang) used as a badge of honour by heavymetal music fans 3. A badass beer with a heart of gold. This diamond in the rough with a Weizen edge is refreshing in summer and heart-warming in winter. This pal aims to please. Do I detect a hint of clove? A touch of banana? A splash of citrus? Call your friends, pack your bags, we’re headed to the tropics baby! The day is ours, here we come you long-haired scum.

Dutch Weizen physically brewed in Belgium but by the well-known and popular Van Moll from Eindhoven. Bottle from a Mitra in the Netherlands. Thick and frothy, intricately 'Brugse kant'-like lacing, egg-white, mousy head, cloudy yellowish blonde robe with warmer apricot tinge. Aroma of halfgreen banana, white bread, dried lemon peel, sourdough, cloves, cold potato mash, spoiled leek, raw white celery, vague whiff of DMS. Fruity onset, banana, peach and pear, sweetish and sourish with lively carbonation, the sourish side enhanced by the wheat; white bready middle with grainy edges, soapy wheatiness adorned with phenolic notes in the finish paired with a grassy, lightly leek-like hop bitterishness (clearly dry-hopped) which, however, fails to fully develop and do what it is supposed to do in a 'Hopfenweizen', namely place contrasting bitterness to the wheaty and estery sweetness that is naturally inherent to a Weizen. Very wheaty alright, but not hoppy enough if you claim it to be a 'Hopfenweizen' which is something of a novelty style one could say - a somewhat poor rendition of an idea launched in Schneider's Tap 5 originally, like most non-Schneider Hopfenweissbiere I had to date (but to be fair, I haven't encountered that many of them).
