Alpaïde is een donkere tripel vol pit en traditie. Het is genoemd naar gravin Alpaïdis, grondlegster van het bierdorp Hoegaarden. Het bier heeft zijn smaak te danken enkel aan de variëteit donkere mouten en Poperingse hop. Deze gebrande mouten geven een koffie en chocolade parfum en een volmondige bittere lange afdronk. Het bier balanceert tussen een stout en een trappist.

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and deep amber to redish with a small off-white head. Butterish and roasted malty aroma. Light spiced too. Roasted and light toffee malty flavoured with a vague acidic roasted note. Mild chocolate flavoured finish. Light bitterness.

(Draught at One Pint Pub, Helsinki, on 2009-03-13) Dark brown and cloudy. Medium sized dense white head. Malts and chocolate in aroma. Full bodied palate with medium carbonation. Malts, chocolate, saltiness, sweetness and bitterness in taste. Malty and bitter aftertaste.

Bottle 33cl.Clear light to medium red brown color with a large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, caramel, prune, raisin, date, licorice notes, alcohol notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. (010808)

Bottle @ KBF in Geel. Darkbrown/black appearance, beige head. Aroma is soft and sweet, liquorice, slightly roasted, chocolate. Reminded me of Floreffe Meilleure. Flavour is chocolate, alcohol, roasted malts, slightly bitter, soft and sweet, liquorice. Medium bodied. Nice.

scura buona schouma discreta persistenza note fruttate tostate anche un po di luppolo ma nache dolce tostatura leggero cioccolato caffe liquirizia una piccola nota speziata abbastanza morbida il tostato prevale anche il lupolo è buono

Bottled. Dark brown color. Aroma of dark fruit, malt, slight roasted. Slight bitter and roasted taste. Decent beer, but not a barley wine I would say.

Tap at Delirium Tap House. Dark brown with a beige/tan head. Light floral aroma over roasted malt. Dark roasted malt. A little floral hop. Just a tad sour. A little coffee and some heat develop with time. Its a very good beer, just not what I am looking for at the moment. Could pass for a stout I suppose.

Draught. Ambery brown colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is caramel, alcohol and some fruits. Flavour is alcohol fruits and some yeast. The alcohol comes through too clearly in this one, so I have a hard time appreciating it that much...

Huge light yellow-beige head, slightly irregular, over very dark brown beer with ruby flashes. Rich bready nose with lots of chestnut/nutty flavours, rich dark malts, sweetish and roasted both. Liquorice. Very dry roasted to burnt taste, clearly Maillard. BIt of human sweat. Greenery finish, dark malt-dominated, sweet. Super-thick texture, creamy, oily, velvety feel; alcohol-laden, some discreet fusels. Very classical dark beer, very much in the Walloon tradition, rather than Flemish.
