We teamed up with our friends at Perennial Artisan Ales to brew our latest dessert-inspired imperial stout. Coconut Pecan Pie is our take on the classic American baked good.
Pouring a dark umber brown with a khaki colored head, the nose offers a strong display of freshly shredded coconut, melted chocolate chips and ground nuts supported by a subtle note of simmered blackberries. The palate strikes a balance between dark chocolate fudge, molasses, pie crust and bright toasted coconut with deep, lingering notes of roasted pecans. Coconut Pecan Pie has a medium body and mouthfeel with a slightly lower level of sweetness compared to past releases in this vein.

Seemingly opaque, dark mahogany-ebony with a medium-sized, bright, deep, tan head showing moderate-to-strong retention.
Nose is dense and packed with both sweet fudge, caramel and rich toffee, but also vinous, dark berry-like acidity and roasted nut earthiness. Coconut is nice and light, certainly not dominating and adding a toastiness of its own that actually works towards the dry end of the aroma. Definitely intense and full and while, true to their dessert stout series, it shows no raw/sharp/messy alcohol, there's definitely still some alcohol dryness and warmth here.
In the mouth it's equally intense with soy-raisin-prune and toasted coconut emerging alongside the sweet fudge-maple-caramel to give both sweetness and acidity up front. Soft, dense, thick, massive texture/body with low but tight carbonation and lingering prune, dark chocolate, earthy nut and light toasted coconut. Again, as with the aroma, the alcohol isn't sharp or obnoxious, but does produce a noticeable warming character on the end that further contributes to the intense, rich nature of the beer. For one of the lower abv beers in the series, it actually feels like one of the bigger. Probably just the intensity of flavors and its youth. Is definitely still enjoyable now, in very small quantities, but should be really nice with some age on it.
