Our talk, dark and handsome milk stout is a decadent dessert beer with rich notes of sweet chocolate and vanilla with a gentle dry finish to create the flavour of marshmallows roasting on an open fire. (contains lactose).

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up From cork & Cask online. Pours deep brown with a creamy, beige head. Medium sweet flavour with rounded dark malts, some berries, raisins, sweet chocolate. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet but not cloying in the finish, a little vanilla, more berries, chocolate, impressions of toasted marshmallow, soft roast. Rather drinkable.

Bottle from LIDL in Uxbridge. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, vanilla aroma and taste. Not too sweet, it's quite drinkable but I expected a little more after the initial hype surrounding this one some months back.

7.4% Lidl version, from their Brooklands branch. Aroma is sweet and sugary, sweet and creamy. Dark. Pours medium-dark brown. Foamy beige head, which thins too soon. Light-medium bitter with a big sweet streak. Equally not overly marshmallow. More sugary lactose with coffee. Sour berries and malts into the finish. Medium bodied. Creamy. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. A bit too chemically for me and certainly wouldn't want too much of this in one go. I first commented that it was not overly sweet but it gradually just gets sweeter and sweeter with added aftertaste.

Often like the idea behind milk stouts more than the reality. So this pours near black to the eye, with a red tinge in backlight, and a foamy beige head. The aroma promises some roasted malt and chocolate sweetness, but it’s the latter that predominates in the flavour, with a hint of dry bitterness in the finish. Where were the marshmallows? Again, doesn’t quite hit the expectations, but decent enough

330ml bottle from Lidl (7.4% ABV); BBE Jan 2022. Drank at home on 3rd Oct 2020. Tanned head on a black body, nose and taste of malty molasses, semi-sweet and smooth; not too sure I could find any 'marshmallow' esters or flavours but it's a decent milk stout.

Bottle from Lidl. Near black in colour with a decently-sized, off-white, head. Vanilla oak, milk chocolate, a whiff of marshmallow and some toasty malts, before a warming and sweet finish. Enjoyable.
