Crystal malt, amber malt, black malt and roast barley in generous quantities generate a deep black colour and flavours to match. Roast bitterness, coffee and liquorice notes combine in a velvety rich malt texture. A full and sweetish body is balanced by traditional Goldings hops.

Bottle. Very dark brown color with small light beige head. Roasted malt, grassy hops in aroma. Taste, roasted malt, caramel, grassy hops. Good.

Sehr dunkelbrauens, fast schwarzes Bier mit geringer bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, Kaffee, Schokolade, holzig. Geschmack intensiv röstmalzig, holzig, Kaffe, Schokolade, leicht alkoholisch.

Bottle at home. Pours black with a little beige head. Standard coffee and chocolate aromas, taste has a light sweetness. Well done, but not a ’wow’ beer.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, several years ago. Poured black with a thin tan head. Aroma dark rum, molasses and an alcoholic waft. Medium to full mouth feel; perhaps a little more watery than one would expect from a 10% imperial stout, but still fairly velvety. Initial flavours of dark fruit, sticky buns and with an earthy backbone. Rich, dark coffee on the palate with notes of cloves and burnt malt.

Flasche: Very deep amber to black coloured, mid-sized and lacy tanned head, solid aroma of dried fruits and nuts with roasted malt and a touch of liquorice; solid bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied; nuts and warming alcohol in the sweet-vinous finish with a balancing bitterness showing up in the aftertaste. A very, very fine winter warmer…

From a 500ml bottle on 21/10/2013. Pours close to black with a medium tan head which dissipates relatively quickly. The aroma is sweet chocolate and caramel, with a touch of booze. The flavour features a lot of milk chocolate and caramel, vanilla, and a hint of dark fruit and licorice. Has a very rich and creamy palate, and slightly above average carbonation for an impy. A not overly complex but enjoyable dessert beer. Rating 3.8. Re-rate 7/1/2018. Largely as above but got a lost more licorice, warming alcohol and a noticeable roasted bitterness. Drinks all of its 10%.Pretty good, but not really my style of impy.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines Birmingham, England and consumed at the South Park road tasting, Colorado. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy light tan head and a slightly oily consistency. The aroma is creamy roasted malt. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich big liqourice red berry fruit slightly watery refreshing palate. This beer has everything!

Bottle shared at the South Park m’okay tasting thanks to Jmgreenuk. Pours dark dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of coffee, roast, caramel, over ripe fruit, yeast and malt. Flavour is over moderate sweet and bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.
