Treated as an imperial black IPA, this was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a black color with a cap of a little eggshell white foamy head. Some messy lace.
The aroma had some coffee, light bitter pine/somewhat sprucy, citrus rind, subtle earthiness, sly wood, dark chocolate and a little bit of grassiness.
The flavor was moderately bitter with a touch of the sweet and roast nipping at the back end. Aftertaste was semi-roasty, bitter, hint of sweet. Finish nipped at some roast and pine.
The palate was medium bodied with a good grip of the sipping aspect coming about. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty nice imperial black IPA. I’d have this again.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits Dark brown with a tan head. Earthy pine and citrus atop a lightly roasty chocolate sweet maltiness. That’s a pretty good black ipa right there.

Pours a black from a bottle, off-white head with lots of lacing. Aroma of coffee and piney hops, a bit different but it totally works. Very good bittersweet balanced beer.

Bottle at home grabbed a few RI beers on my recent trip to bring back. Pours blackish brown with frothy beige head. Nose is coffee and ash. Tastes of burnt wood, coffee, resin, hint of citrus, pine, some booziness. Fine palate touch of alcohol on finish.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Nikki's Liquors, 4/12/15

Aroma: Roasted coffee and dark chocolate aroma, underlying pine, toast, and a bit of earth.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color, with a really nice, lasting, frothy tan head and heavy lace.
Flavor: The flavor is unsweet coffee/dark malts, minimal sweetness, fairly bitter on the finish.
Palate: Medium bodied and fairly creamy on the mouth, worth a soft carbonation, and a dry finish.
Overall Impression: This is a great looking beer with a head that refuses to go away. The aroma and the flavor are solid, but not spectacular. Solid, but the pour is the standout here over the rest of the brew.
