Hops + hops + hops!

Our version of the 'West Coast' IPA - the beer that sparked a revolution

When Brett arrived from California he couldn’t believe there weren’t any of his beloved ‘West Coast’ IPAs readily available in the UK. This beer is his version of the style that sparked the craft beer revolution in the US.

Among the orchards and pastures of the green and pleasant Somerset countryside you’ll find our unusual brewery. Our neighbours at Westcombe Dairy make one of the finest Cheddars in the world and Madness balances its intensity and flavours perfectly.

Our Madness IPA uses four classic American hops renowned for their citrus and resinous characteristics. Amarillo, Citra, Centennial and Columbus – used somewhat liberally in late hop and dry hop additions – make this beer what it is. We use a very simple malt bill, and a yeast with a very low flavour impact so that the hops can really shine.

Open the bottle to a tropical punchbowl of aromas, as this beer is all about the hops. There are masses and masses of late hops and dry hops to maximise the beautiful flavours and aromas, so you can experience wave after wave of tropical and citrus fruits.

Cloudy golden color with a fine white head that makes a fine lacing. Tropical fruity and grapefruit hoppy aroma. Medium + body. Moderate sweet and a fine bitterness. Tropical fruity and balanced grapefruit hoppy flavor. A really fine and tasty brew.

God duft av friske citrusfrukter og en anelse honning. Dunkel solo gul farge. Tynnt lag skum, ring langs kant. God nydelig smak av friske citrusfrukter med en anelse honning og appelsin i ettersmak. Ja takk gjerne en til.

Citrusy aroma, little bit of tropics, golden appearance, very drunkable, great beer for some. The only disadvantage of this beer is a pretty low bitterness (although I am very bitterness resistant hophead). Anyway in my opinion a perfect aroma and malt but bitterness is very mediocre.

On tap at BrewDog Cardiff. Golden copper, a little bit hazy with a slight head. Massive aroma of pine hop and barley sugar with a hint of mint. Savoury umami mixes with intense bitterness in the taste. Medium bitter finish, bitter aftertaste. Decent body. A great IPA.

Gylden brun klar med lavt hvitt skum. Humle og barnållukt. Kjenner begge lyktene i smak også men noe søtlige sitrustoner også. Bitter ettersmak.

12oz pour at Never Stop in San Sebastián pours a hazy gold with some lacing, creamy, white head. Nose has a standard IPA character to it, lemon rind, mild malt, some soap, some pine. Flavor is lightly malt, some mild honey, fairly heavy soap, pine, lemon rind. Lightly bitter finish.
