This is a Belgian-style strong ale but with an American fusion twist dreamt up by Epic. Using authentic Belgian-style yeast, this is a malt-driven beer with Maris Otter malt as a base and a hint of Pilsner malt. For the first twist we use smoked cherry wood malt that works it’s magic, bringing a smoky sweetness to the caramel malts and a bit of peat flavor as well. This ale then really marries together when it hits the cask. The entire batch aging in the whiskey barrels nicely dries out the perceived sweetness of the caramel malt leaving an almost scotch like taste, with smoke, bourbon, hints of vanilla, wood, aged fruit from the Belgian yeast and some peat. A very, very special extremely flavorful strong ale made for sharing.

Smak och doft av humle, malt, belgisk jäst, torkad mörk frukt (plommon och russin), trä med toner av vanilj, lätt rök och marzipan. Rund, len med stor sötma, lätt kolsyrad och avrundas av en enkel beska.

Sample at a tasting at Systembolaget, April 2013. (Release #18) A bit hazy light copper with a white head. Soft aroma of smoke, oak, dried fruit and some toffee. About the same in the taste also some ham and alcohol. On the sweet side. An ok beer.

Bottled at SBWF (10%). Hazy orange/brown. Apply woody nose. Sweet and full bodied with spome caramel. Wood, mild smoke and gooseberry, some marzipan before a warming peppery finish. Very good.

Bomber. Big whiskey nose, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch. Not subtle at all. Amber-orange color, quickly vanishing airy head. Sweet, oaky, somewhat smoky flavor, lots of whiskey. Fruity and complex but a bit sloppy, and just too much whiskey.
