Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

2007 Bottle bought at Systembolaget last Christmas. It smells very nice! Confirms that I was right to buy som extra last year? When I taste it I realise that that wasn´t the case. The beer has not expired yet but the date is coming up soon. The score is a bit unfair becouse of the bad ageing.

Pours copper, off white thick head. Aroma, hoppy and floral. Taste is malty / caramel and floral hops. Lightly roasted. Weak finish with bitter hops. Not really my idea of a winter/seasonal christmas beer.

Bottle gushes on opening. Medium offwhite head doesn’t alst. Deep amber hazy body. Deep firm raisiny plummy malt aroma with citric notes. Dry strawy resiny malt taste with papery medicinal notes. Mid-bodied. Dry papery aftertaste. This was probably a bit old. Should rerate. (0.355l bottle from Systembolaget, Göteborg.)

Bottled (BBE 12/2008)
Hazy reddish amber color, small brownish head. Yeasty fruity aroma with some American hops - not really outstanding, it is a bit like a vomit? Hoppy, pale malty flavor. Some hoppyness in the aftertaste. Very basic, standard American pale ale.
