Flaska från SB. Kastaanjebrun klar vätska med en liten skumpuck. Bra kropp för sin abv och mycket smak. Nötter, bröd, torkad frukt, kryddor och söta smaker av kolaremmar och karamell. Rejäl beska så inte är rå men som ligger kvar länge i munnen. Smakar som en uppgraderad bitter och passar perfekt till julmaten. Gott

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Changkat, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin white head and some broken lace. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, woody hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter light sweet with a dry malty, big woody hop bitter palate and lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Very bitter and a little one dimensional. I think Santa is sharing his private reserve as it's not as good as he expected it to be. He had better deliver me something nicer than this at Christmas!

Santa’s Private Reserve? Le père Noël de la brasserie Rogue veut nous faire passer une IPA pour une bière de Noël! Elle n’en respecte d’ailleurs aucun code. Étonnant également de voir la classification du brasseur en Amber Ale, car avec un IBU de 65, des arômes de pamplemousse et de résineux elle respecte par contre tous les codes d’une IPA! Je pense que le Père Noël a trop bu.... Néanmoins, en outrepassant ces problématiques de classification, il est tout de même intéressant d’indiquer que cette Santa’s Private Reserve, bien que pêchant par une simplicité aromatique est agréable (sans plus) et globalement sur un bon équilibre. Couleur ambrée en verre pour un EBC aux alentours de 36, une mousse blanc cassée nappant tout juste la bière et une faible effervescence. Le nez est purement celui d’une IPA. L’arôme principal est le résineux accompagné de pamplemousse et de caramel. L’attaque est fraîche sur une bonne alliance pamplemousse, agrume et caramel. La deuxième bouche relativement courte, laisse se développer des arômes peu intenses de mangue et de pêche. L’arrière bouche quant à elle peu présente et sur une corpulence plutôt faible, laisse percevoir des notes de pamplemousse et de caramel. La troisième bouche est beaucoup plus intéressante. L’amertume d’une bonne intensité et sur des arôme de pamplemousse se fait jour, agréable et bien intégrée. Le point le plus notable est cependant l’alcool, qui malgré son titrage alcoolique de 5,3 % Abv soutient bien l’ensemble et permet au final de s’exprimer convenablement, sur une longueur appréciable, avec une amertume qui se veut alors plus saillante et des arômes de résineux qui s’expriment alors. Bref, une IPA plutôt plaisante sans être exceptionnelle. Je ne la mettrai en tout cas pas sur ma liste pour le prochain Noël.

Unique taste, I will grant you that. Drained a 12 oz. bottle into a bar mug revealing an appealing red-brown amber with slender whitish head. It has a nose of corn and earth as best as I can describe it. I taste some malt, some unusual hoppiness and a bitter, medicinal finish. Glad to try, time to move on.

Tap at The Old Red Cow, London. Pours hazy amber/brown colour with a good sized creamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, biscuit, malt, floral hop and light spices. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body. Enjoyable.

12oz bottle from Beer52.com. An attractive copper colour with a loose cream head; aroma of spicy toasted malts; strong piney hops taste with some grapefruit; and a dry finish with more fresh resinous hops. A struggle to finish because of the amount of hops.

Bottle from Beer52. Deep copper with a thin off-white head. Pleasant warming toasty notes up front are mostly obliterated by overpowering pine and (to a lesser extent) grapefruit. In the background you can just about get some light caramel, earth, mandarin and a touch of minerals and herbs, but they’re rather lost in the heavy-handed bitterness. It’s unbalanced and overly bitter; I didn’t enjoy this much and on top of that it wasn’t very Christmassy.
