Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

(Bottle, 0.65 l, at Angleterre, 20121119) A gusher. The beer poured deep reddish brown and a bit hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had hops, pine, malts and molasses. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, hops, pine and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, hoppy and bitter. A quite nice balance between hops and malts. A bit too sweet.

Poured from bottle(room temp) a cloudy deep red with a huge head that lingers quite nicely. Halfway through, there are "islands" of foam with sporadic lacing.
The smell has a very sweet caramelly air to it suggesting that the flavour will also be very sweet. We'll see.
The taste does have a sweet malty note up front but there's some hop bitterness in the background that is making for a nicely balanced brew and then, the bitterness takes over in the aftertaste and adds to the overall enjoyment of this amber. It's a good drop worth buying again.

Mild hopfenbitterer Start. Das Bier wird nur geringfügig bitterer, der Hopfen bleibt mild. Eine zaghafte Malznote kommt auf, die sich aber nicht durchsetzen kann. Geringe Würzigkeit. Angenehm hopfiges Finish. Gut trinkbar. 8/8/8/8/7/8

650ml bottle from Bierkompass
Pours dark reddish with a foamy head. Aroma of caramel malts and some grassy and fruity hops. Taste of caramel malts, some harsh bitterness and grassy hops. Rough and dry finish has hints of fruitness. A bit unbalanced.

Bottle @ Døe meeting. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of malt, light grassy hops. Taste is malt, caramel, peach, light grapefruit. Medium body, lively carbonation. Not bad, but this bottle seemed rather old. 150212

65 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Kahdet Kasvot, no BBE info.
Aroma is sweetish with bready malt and some fruity hops and vanilla. Somewhat acidic flavour has metal, vegetables, some fruity hops and bready malt. Aroma was ok but flavour is not nice. A bad bottle?

Bottle from ølbutikken. clear dark amber, smooth huge offwihte to reddish brownish head. Good aroma of american flowery and piny hops and sweet malts. Aroma is not as powerful/strong as I like it most, but what there is, is great. flavor is flowery and piny hoppy, sweet malty, crisp, dry, balanced. The hops really do well with the sweet malts - very tasty. Aftertaste is first sweet malty, then the taste round it off with a dry bitterness. Not a hop-bomb, but very tasty nevertheless. Perhaps a little watery, but that is likely because the flavor could handle a higher ABV than 6%. Great uncomplicated US beer. Likely also good for beginners as it does not present itself as extreme as many others.
