Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl (possibly originally from cgarvieuk). Appearance - opaque mat black with a light tan head. Nose - burnt bread, chocolate and general roast. Taste - dark chocolate, burnt bread. Palate - medium bodied and roasty. Overall - good traditional hopped stout, not a Black IPA.

Bottle shared in BOD. It pours black with a medium beige head. The sweet, tangy, dark fruits, plum, tangy, cola bottles, cola cubes, sweet roasted malt and Dandelion & Burdock. The taste is dry, bitter, earthy roast, plum, prune, some tartness, peppery spice, charcoal, burnt toast and coffee grounds with a dry, roasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent dark fruit character. Not bad.

Bottle at a friend's. Pours black with a thin beige head. Aromas of burnt citrus, resin and toffee. Taste has a herbal hoppy note, almost minty. Prickly carbonation. Bitter finish.

Bottle from The House of Bruar. Black body with a thin beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of blueberry and liquorice. Flavour of liquorice and stainless steel. Medium body with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Soft fizz. I really enjoyed this. The finish is a touch sharper than I’d have liked but overall this is very good. I’ll look out for more Abernyte beers in future.
