Bottle from Aldi, Inverurie. It pours deep ruby brown with a bubbly off-white head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, fruit cake, supermarket, cola, dull smoke and candy. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, toasty, smoked, tannin, black tea, bonfire, cola, peppery spice, wood, leather and dried fruits with a chewy finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. Lacks a bit of depth and body, but it's not bad.

Brown beer, went a bit flat on top. Smoky smell, and it's there in the taste too with a touch of fruit. I'm not huge on smoky beers but this is quite light. Not bad.

On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - dark brown to black with some red chinks. Nose - smoky bacon. Some sweet malt at the back. Taste - smoked toffee going on. Smoke is definitely dominant. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy and smoky texture and a long dry smoky finish. Overall - good ale, Bob.
