One taste of Troegenator tells you this is no ordinary beer. At once malty and crisp. Traditional yet timeless. A rebel with a sweet side. This deliciously dark doublebock calls for so much grain we had to custom-build our brewhouse around it. Layered with notes of smooth caramel, stone fruit and fresh toasted grains, ’Nator is a beer for people who love beer.

The appearance had a nice dark black body. A nice half centimeter white head appeared and lasted for a good minute before dieing into the body. The smell has the malts up front with some plums. The taste followed the smell. The palate was light to medium and really smooth. Overall, this is a great beer that I’ve had several times over the years and am glad to be drinking this the rest of this weekend.

Bottle dated 09.09.09. From my trade with MrBunn. I’ve decided that despite their high abv, doppelbocks probably should be laid to age too long. This one was fine, but some yeast has settled out and autolyzed, I think. Still, a big malty nose starts under the cap and doesn’t let up. Deep brown color. Taste is full of malts. As I suggested, this may have some dead yeast, which you can make work with you on a beer like this. Notes of clove too. Overall, a pleasant experience to drink. Hmm, no sediment on the bottom, so part of my opinion goes out the window. This wouldn’t stop me from ever having one again.

35,5 cl bottle @ vPBF, bottled 12.01.2012
Aroma is somewhat sweet and rather malty with chocolate, caramel and hints of berries. Flavour is rather malty and . Somewhat leathery palate. Good, does not differ from German ones at all.

Bottled 355ml (vPBF, bottled 02/2012, bought from New York)
Dark clear nut brown-amber color, small beige head. Sweet caramel, almost banana aroma. Medium-bodied. Very sweet, caramelly flavor, low bitterness, not showing alcohol much. Bready. Suprisingly German (not American).

330ml bottle @ vPBF

Pours dark brown with a foamy white head. Aroma of malts, some sweet syrup, caramel, toffee, hints of bread. Taste is sweet and malty with syrup, caramel, toffee and bready notes. Sugary and bready finish with malty caramel notes. Quite tasty, although a bit sweetish doppelbock.
