Barrel-Aged Barleywine
The soul of Barleywine channeled through vivifying bourbon barrels and blended with an alchemist's touch. Summon notes of caramel, stone fruit, brown sugar, and vanilla with each generous swirl.

Can shared at Johnny's turns 30 ad hoc beer celebration. Darker brown colored head. Average sized off-white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, sweetish, sugary, liquor, booze. Awesome

Sweetish, oaky and stingy woody with some barrel, toffee, caramely malts, fudge, hints of prunes, raisins and syrup. Quite heavy but tasty.

Aromas are dark malt, molasses, roast, dark ripe fruit. Flavors are similar to nose, more sweet than bitter with modest carbonation. A little bit of booze in the finish. Good but not great.

Malm October tasting (14/10/2023) - toasted sweet malty with layers of caramel and toffee, dried fruit shred, full body, brown sugar, vanilla and bourbon coalesce into the sweet malty finish. Gorgeous.

Can (10/29/24) from Andover Classic Wines. Lightly hazy dark brown-magenta with nice sparkle, ephemeral fizzy head, nice viscosity, no lacing. Aroma is bourbon, oak, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit, all well balanced. Taste is strong caramel over bourbon, dark fruit, light oak. Very smooth, thick texture, soft carbonation, mild alcohol warmth, finish as taste but more on the oaky side. Very nice--smooth, well balanced with good complexity.

Thin body, oily, sweet and boozy. Bourbon and malty caramel, toffee, vanilla, tanned leather. Rich, smooth, complex. Excellent, probably the best batch I've had.

12 oz can from Half Time, 12/29/24. Muddy, rusty reddish-brown color, tan head. Whiskey, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses, dark fruit / raisin, a little bread, and some caramel / toffee as well. Lots of flavor here, well balanced. Rich and a little boozy, but not overly so. Damn smooth for a 15%er. Quality stuff. 9/4/9/4/18

Walnut furniture brown, a nice thin layer of tan foam. Smell is full of malts, alcohol and some sugar/molasses. Rich taste, makes me think of old book leather. Nicely numbing from the first sips. Invites some nice, slow, contemplative sipping. Watching nice rings of foam being left in the glass.

On tap at Revolution - Kedzie, pours a deep dark mahogany / dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma reveals plenty of bourbon, dark dried fruits, and brown sugar. Flavour is quite syrupy, with lots of dark dried fruits, intense bourbon, toffee, and brown sugar. A bit too syrupy and sweet for me, but theres a real nice barrel character. Rich and complex but a bit too brutal and sweet. Good.
