Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

deep dark brown colour, dense, creamy brown head; complex aroma of chocolate, dried fruits like plum and maybe raisin, hints of apple, oatmeal, minimal herbal notes and some coffee; taste of chocolate, mild roasted coffee, vanilla,dried fruits and some herbal liqueur notes; minimal sourness in the sweet aftertaste; excellent sweet stout

Bottle. Very dark, chestnut brown. Thin, sticky, tan head. Chocolate. Caramel. Some bonfire toffee. Heavy on the sweet. Light on the roast. Taste is dry, and a little bitter. A bit of sweet wriggles in. Palate is a little watery. Finishes dry, with a tang of tartness.

Botella de 35.5 cl en el lúpulo en octubre de 2012. color negro con sabores y aromas ligeros de maltas tostados con cacao y algo de café. Cuerpo medio con 5 vol. Buena en general aunque un poco falta de mayor densidad y sabores mas intensos.

Bottle from Bier-Deluxe.de. Very dark chestnut brown color with medium beige head. Promising aroma of roasted malt, raisins, prunes, coffee, dark chocolate. Weak taste of roasted malt, espresso, chocolate, prunes. Not bad, but not stellar.

Classic oatmeal stout with creamy beige head and dark burgundy colour, blackish but still transparent. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, orange peel, raisins, smoked bacon, charcoal, caramel. Soft sweetish onset with the typical velvety mouthfeel of oats, light candi touch, bit smoky and meaty, with dry roasted bitterness in the end. Very appetizing stout.

550 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown almost black colour with a medium, long lasting brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice. Sweet flavour of dark fruit, roasted malt, chocolate and coffee with a bittersweet finish. Medium body with a silky smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice sweet stout.

leuk antiek ogend etiket, schenkt zwart met fijne kaki kraag. aroma is wat beperkt, diverse mouten met chocolade en lichte koffie. smaken zijn redelijk zoet, melkchocolade, zacht en glad, emedium body, lage co2, zoetige afdronk, maar over het algemeen is het wel aan de te dunne kant. --- Beer merged from original tick of Oatmeal Stout on 23 May 2018 at 16:32 - Score: 7

(Bottle) Very dark, almost black with a tan head. Pleasant aroma - toffee, nuts, coffee, although all fairly subtle. Excellent palate, smooth with carbonation that is both velvety and has prickly brightness. Some residual stickiness. Great flavour, rich and quite complex with dark toffee sweetness rounded off with some hints of bitterness, more black coffee than hops, in the finish. Excellent beer.
