Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

550ml bottle from West Coast LRS at Teekay. Appearance: brown with a tan head. Aroma: fruity, molasses. Taste: similar with some smoky notes. Overall: ok.

55cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark purple, almost black, with a nice brownish foam, fine. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee. Body is average, with a nice tickling carbonation. Taste is moderately bitter, with delicate sweetness. Finish is average.

Bottle. Malty aroma and taste, roasty notes, chocolate, light coffee, red fruit notes. Light sweet, light to medium bitter. Medium body, malty bitter sweet finish. Good.

Pours black, small, lightly tanned head. Smell is mild, some lactose, very mild roastyness. Taste is creamy, roasty, lactose arrivés later in the taste. Medium body, medium low carbo. finish has mostly lactose, but it is never TOO sweet. nice beer overall.

Almost opaque deep ruby brown colour, tall frothy tan head, good retention, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, dried dark fruits, hint of smoke. Smooth taste, medium sweet and bitter, malty, milk chocolate, light liquorice, smoky/meaty, with average duration. Medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation, light bittersweet finish, spicy and chocolate notes. Smooth, well-balanced and very pleasant, excellent.

Thuis uit een mooie robuuste halve liter fles. Zwart van kleur, lichtbruin schuim. Een zeer prettige stout, zacht van smaak, precies de juiste zoetheid. Heerlijk en ook weer lekker dat deze (met een halve liter om te beginnen) maar 5% is.
