Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

Svart med fingerhøyt lys brunt skum. Lukter havre, lakris og kaffe. Middels fylde. Smaker noe salt lakris, havre lett bitter mørk sjokolade. Middels lang.

Bottle from Boise Co-op. Finally! its about time I got around to this. Pours out an opaque brown with one finger creamy beige head. Aroma is roasty and sweet. Taste brings more of the sweetness, almost lacto notes, but still with a nice, gentle roasty bitterness. Super smooth and creamy. What a stunner!

Bottle from T-Drinks, Tilburg. Shared with Anke. Pours cloudy black with a lasting, small, foamy, beige head; little lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, salted peanuts, caramel, candied fig, mocha, molasses, chocolate cake even. It tastes medium malty sweet, hints of caramel & chocolate, and light toasty bitter, hint of coffee, some nuts, very light raisin-like sour touch. Toasty, herbal hoppy & nutty finish, lingering caramel malt. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Classic Stout, very drinkable.

Nice to see the beer that introduced me to stouts still holds up reasonably well among its brethren. Impressively roasty and dry, with a good bit of chocolate and espresso notes as well as a coffee cherry acidity hiding underneath all the dark beer loveliness. Texture's a tad bit thin, and the flavor never grows as complex as you'd hope, but still an enjoyable pint. Pours dark, dark brown with a beige-ish head and modest lacing. Lackluster nose offers up mild chocolate notes. Texture's a tad on the thin side for an oatmeal stout, but we'll let it slide. Good pint.

35,5cl bottle from Kaubamaja, Tallinn. Pours dark mahogany coloured with a lasting beige head. Malty aroma with roasty notes, dark fruits and hints of chocolate and mild licorice. Medium sweet, smooth and very well balanced. Certainly a pleasant one.

Very dark mahogany pour with a beautiful tall tan head that is slow to rise to the surface. Notes of roasted malts, chocolate, milk coffee, smoke, oxidised grapes, licorice. Clean, simple and delicious. These guys make some of the best low ABV stouts out there, great stuff!
