It’s back! Our mythical Flying Mouflan is a resiny, caramel, chocolately giant of a barleywine ale. This strong and alluring beer originally took flight as Scratch #4 way back when, and we’ve since taken to aging it in bourbon barrels. This version, however, isn’t aged on wood. It’s the OG Flying Mouflan you know and love, and it’s only available on draft at the brewery for a limited time!

Bottle @ ratman’s house. Thanks! Cloudy, reddish brown with a light brown head. Floral, herbal, a touch minty, floral hoppy, caramel malty, slightly earthy aroma. Earthy, floral hoppy, toasty caramel malty, light toffee flavor.

Pours a shade lighter than brown with deep copper/red highlights and a creamy off white head that dissipates to a cap. Right after I poured this the aroma was all hops. Resinous and floral hops. After a few minutes the hops gave way to slightly sugary, caramel malts, some toffee or brown sugar in there as well. Taste follows the aroma. Malty citrus bite up front, caramel and toffee peak through in the middle followed by a lingering somewhat dry resinous hop finish. Creamy mouthfeel, thick body, medium carbonation. Great Barleywine, quite hop forward ala Bigfoot. I wish I had bought 2 of these cause I’d love to open one next year.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), split with manuchampions, pours dark murky reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma of toffee and mixed tropical dark dried fruits. Flavour is unsuspectingly peppery, with caramel / toffee, dark fruits and chocolate cake, finishing with a slighty hoppy and caramely finish. Robust palate, with a complex flavour profile that lasts and lasts. Most wonderful.

not sure what a "flying mouflan" is exactly, but i guess it doesnt matter when it tastes this good. exactly as the label suggests, like nugget nectar pushed off a cliff, or better yet, on massive quatities of steriods. the hops are front and center, with a little malt balance. this is reminiscent of some of the american strong ales like arrogant bastard. enjoyable, but take your time, no need to down in five minutes.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours essentially opaque ruddy brown with a 3/16th beige head. Definitely got that brown sugar barley wine aroma aspect, but there’s something more. Med body, little carbonation. It’s not so sticky as many, and there is something herby(mildly hoppy?) that reduces the sweetness. Gives a nice caramel coating to the mouth. Pretty nice stuff - but definitely not your common garden variety barley wine.

Bottle, 9.3%. Caramelly aroma. Dark brown colour, small tan head. Very sweet flavour. Good hop burn, brown sugar, some alcohol. Good spicy note, I do not know what sort of spice, but quite nice.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear reddish amber with big dense beige head that stays a good while. Aroma is piney hops, very little carbonation, a little lacing, and thin body. Taste is light dark malt and finishes with a harsh bitterness. Ok for a barleywine.
