On tap at Ølfestival 2011. A clear, brown body is topped by a finger-thick, light tan head. Roasted and vinous aroma with a touch of alcohol. Well, more than a touch actually, but considering its ABV it’s just a touch. A faint note of licorice and a solid dose of piney hops too. The flavor has alcohol, roasted malts, resins, pine cones, citrus peel and a massive bitterness. Smooth, warming and full-bodied, finishing with a lasting bitterness. Overall, too warm on the palate, but tasteful and with a nice bitterness. Rating: 7-4-8-4-15-3.8. 110527
Bottle, 375ml corked. A black one, topped by a two-finger dark beige head leaving some lacings. Roasted nose with a nice resiny and citrusy hoppyness. Not much alcohol detected. Wonderful hop flavor with pine cones, resins and citrus peel. Some malty sweetness and a warming touch. Full body, sweet. Lasting finish with a nice bitterness. A really wonderful one. 110931

Draft @ Delirium, Brussels. 5€ for a nice 30cl glass? can’t beat that if you compare the bottle price.

375 ml green "champagne" bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Bottled on 16.05.11. Bottle No. 6747 of 8973. ABV is 11.2%. Dark brown colour, nearly black. Huge tan head. Nice aroma of American hops, notes of spruce, pine and grapefruit. Also notes of roasted malts. The flavour is first sweet, malty and roasty, followed by a massive hoppiness, notes of spruce, pine and resin. The bitterness becomes rather sharp in the aftertaste.

Riktgt god.

Medium brown head. Nearly opaque black body goes hazy brown towards edges. Alcoholic roasty pineapple aroma with resiny citric fruity bubble gum aroma. Dry-sweet roasty chocolatey resiny taste with citric mealy pineapple notes. Full-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel with faint alcoholic notes. Dryish resiny chocolatey pineapple aftertaste with roasty spicy citric notes. Nice, and well executed, but I think black IPA is not really my style. (0.375l bottle, wine monopoly Vika, Oslo.)

(Draught at Oluttupa Viisi Penniä, 20110815) The beer poured almost black and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had pine, roasted malts, liquorice and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied and dryish with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, roasted malts, pine, fruitiness, ash, liquorice and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. Nice tasting beer having good IPA and stout characteristics. Alcohol was well hidden, too.
