An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Production moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.

Bottled (BB 11/2007). Clear amber color, big cloudy off-white head. A bit caramelly, grassy bitterness. Grassy, cardboardish, raisins in the flavor. This "vintage" bottle was too old ... we got it at The White Horse, London.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Dark amber pour with decent white head. Clean, fruity aroma. Hoppy, grassy, fresh, nicely balanced beer. Very drinkable indeed. Had this on draught a few times last year too and it was sublime.

Bottle, Sainsbos, Upton. Attractive dark reddy gold with a decent off white head. Aroma exuded an appealing grassy hop, that promised good things. Well balanced flavour that had nice hoppage with citrus and berry notes. Dry bitter finish. Would probably stick this in the trolly again. A good english example of the style.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Deep amber in colour with a foamy, off white head and moderate carbonation. Malty aroma, with some red fruit and dusty hops. Flavour started sweet, with caramel, orange, grassy hops and a hint of spice. There was a long, bitter finish to this very enjoyable beer. Great stuff.

Cask, 5.6% at GBBF08. Dark amber colour, OK frothy white head. Vinous flavour, dusty, malty, with some alcohol. Distinct bitterness which goes fine with the malty notes

Cask gravity @ Reading Beer Festival 2008.Clear medium amber orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, light to light moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat. (020508)
