An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Production moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.

275 ml bottle. Purchased in 2004 at the Museum Brewery in Burton on Trent. BBE 29/8/2005. But it’s bottle conditioned, so it will be great. Amber color with a few small chunks and a multifinger beige head. Aroma is malt backed by floral hop. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is malt, with floral hop, but I swear there’s a celery note. It is so smooth. It is so mellow. Finishes with a tendency towards astringency, but not getting that far. It is just incredibly well balanced. There is a hint of caramel, and I hypothesize that in a few more years it would have been approaching something like Gales Prize Old Ale. I’ll never know.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a slightly hazy amber golden with a creamy, off-white head leaving some lacework. Unusual aroma of exotic fruit and fruit bubblegum. Medium body with sweet, exotic fruit accents and some caramel and licorice. The finish is dry. Very different but quite lovely. 120208

Clean, deep copper color. Aroma is of hops, banana, and citrus. Flavor is dry hoppiness, caramel malt, earth tones, and some fruit. Finishes with nice bitterness. Nice charecter with great hop flavor. Very enjoyable.

(Bottle, White horse, Parson’s Green, London 26 Apr 2007) Amber colour with firm off-white head, sparkling and lively. Fruity nose with dark fruit and underlying malt. Fruity taste with a firm malty background. Notes of dried fruit, raspberries and earthy hops in the finish. Very nice brew.

Ruby coloured ale, with a sharp citric nose and a citrusy cremola foam, touch of real lemonade real juicy malt. 3.6 bottle at home 15-11-11 Online Mass tasting (http://www.ratebeer.com/forums/worthington-white-shield-uk-mass-tasting_185229_3.htm) ... copper ... little gush ... big off white foam head ... light spicy sweet toffee malt nose...quite fizzy ... creamy caramel malts ... little blackcurrant ... little figgy plum ... soft yeastyness ... i like the soft yeasty character ... its really quite mellow ...little chalky herbalness ... and a little spicy peperyness... all round im enjoying if not loving this beer 3.7

(bottle) Hazy, amber colour with a fluffy and persistent off-white foamy head. Slightly dusty and sweet malty aroma with aromatic apricot-fruity notes and flowery, slightly resiny hops. Modrately bitter flavour, medium body, smooth and pleasant mouthfeel. Sligtly toasted malty and fruity taste; moderately dry, malty, slightly fruity and bitter finish with an aromatic hoppy touch. Quaffable, moreish brew.

Bottle conditioned Very likely with champagne-like bubbles and a massive cream head on top of a bright golden ale; clean hoppy aroma; very fruity in the mouth and a subtle dry finish.

Bottle: Amber coloured, slightly hazy, big fluffy off-white head, lacing and slowly collapsing; robust fruity (red berries) and malty/caramelly nose with a very distinctive hoppy-aromatic touch; stronger bitter flavour, quite dry, light to medium bodied; dry aromatic-bitter finish, balanced by a caramelly fruitiness. A fine stuff...........

Big offwhite creamy shiny head. Hazy deep orange body with carbonation. Light citric hop and softly medicinal aroma. Sweetish citric malt and hop taste with medicinal aftertaste. Nutty, malty notes. Nice! (0.5l bottle.)
