An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Production moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.

Cask was pretty tasteless and bland. Bottle was a bit more positive, clean and fresh with a dry finish but still lacking a little something. Inoffensive English pale that probably tasted a lot better a couple of decades ago.

NWAF 25 Jan 13. Gyldenbrun. 0 skum. God aroma av mørk frukt. Smaken er syrlig frukt. Litt pepper. Behagelig. Blir litt søt - så syrlig igjen. Avslutter tørt. Innholdsrikt.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orange bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch nach Citrus, Blumen. Geschmack sehr malzig, fruchtig herb, leicht nach Kräutern.

Bottle @ home. Dark gold, very little head with no lacing. Aroma of apricot, sulphur and astringency. Taste is a fruity bitter with an astringent kick. The mouthfeel is indeed silky and gorgeous. I found this a hard beer to rate: I like it but at the same time find it heavy going. So a decent 3.4 to say I appreciate its value and heritage, and it has some lovely characteristics, but it’s not one of my regular go-to beers.

Typical IPA from a solid Burton brewer. Fantastic balance between the bready malts and spicy hops. The point here is a good session ale, not a hop bomb

Bottle from one of the supermarkets. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt hop with a medium bitter flavour and a malty hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a long bitter finish.

Pour is a amber with a large white head. Aroma is English hops with decent earthy malt. Flavor is earthy caramel malt with a nice underlying hoppy backbone. Finish is sweet and malty with a nice toffee left on the tongue. Overall a decent English IPA with plenty of malt and a suprising hoppyness.

Bottle from Belmont Station. Pours a deep copper color with a large white head. A sweet fruity, yeasty and sugary nose. Low bitterness, but it’s there, caramel, toast, tea, peppery. Something off, perhaps too much age on this, cardboard perhaps. Marmalade. Satisfying despite it not suiting a IPA flavor. Interesting with character. This was 5 months old I believe.

Copper coloured with a bubbly head. Has a medium to high bitterness but there’s a mix of grain and malts for its aroma and flavours.

Bottle. Pours orange with frothy head. Sweet orange aroma. Flavour is more malt than hop with bready bits. Long bittersweet hop finish with a tip of the tongue pepperiness
