Bottle from Tesco; I’m having a cheap Sunday afternoon beer ticking odyssey £10 for 6 bottles, I’m not afraid to drain pour if I don’t like. Hazy copper pour with a huge off white head, floral and malt aroma, taste of biscuity malts outweigh the hoppiness, some caramel and spice. Decent English IPA, drank the lot.

Pours a rich amber-copper color. Some haze. Big white head that expands quickly with a hard pour. Solid chunks of lace sticking to the walls of the glass. Very pretty beer. Lots of English hops in the aroma; I’m not good at this, but my guess would be Goldings. It has a sweet citrus aroma shot through with a peppery spice. I’m not enjoying the malt contribution as much. The caramel sweetness is a bit limp and doesn’t quite have that luxurious quality of that I love in other English beers. Perhaps, a touch of diacetyl, not that it’s a problem, just a little English twist. The taste adds an interesting mineral note but loses some hop brightness. The malt is still a bit underwhelming. The bitterness seems to have that lasting dry flavor that I think of coming from Burton’s hard water. Still, the beer either needs a richer malt sweetness or a drier profile. The malt bill kinda plays the middle and doesn’t do a great job of it. Good yeasty, mildly bitter finish, though. It’s an easy drinking beer. Mouthfeel is relatively gentle. The attempt to mimic cask ale doesn’t work all that well, but it’s a good thought - I recommend a relatively hard pour and patience. The drying finish helps a lot. Drinks easily. It’s always fun to try a good English beer. Too few make it across the Atlantic.

Hand-pulled cask ale, half, shared by Finn at NWAF ’13. Amber coloured body. Dotted spots down the glass. Aroma is malt-fruity. Dried fruity taste nicely added by earthy malts and a little spicy touch, rather jam-like, with a fine dry bitter support. Medium bodied. Above par for a British strong bitter (Manchester, 25.01.2013)

16.9oz bottle. Orange-brown body, frothy off-white head. Thankfully much better than the lackluster Blonde Ale. The hops aren’t that assertive, but are present enough to add to the balance, and create a nice drinkable Ale. Light caramel, toffee, finings. Still doesn’t really have a cask feel. Rather mediocre, but a nice change of pace for my Midwestern palate.

Bottle bought during visit to Burton-on-Trent. Pours a clear amber colour, with a frothy head that stayed. Quite high in carbonation and a little oily initially. Caramel aroma. Hoppy. Good overall.

Aroma - soft light citrus light spicy hops, slight fruity malts, soft yeast esters
Taste - Soft fruity malts, light sour fruity hops, touch of lemon, soft spicy light peppery hops, nice slightly sharp sour notes, soft caramel malts, alcohol very well hidden, some complex yeast stuff going on, some tartness, no minerals, this is really good, it’s a tad Belgian to me, shockingly good for an English supermarket beer
Palate - soft carb. medium body, smooth. Finish as main flavour, cleans well, bit dry, soft peppery hop, nice slightly tart note
Overall - Didn’t get any minerals here - I was very surprised be this. It’s probably one of the best ’old fashioned’ English beer you can get. I will get more for this for sure!

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. I don’t think this is super fresh, but here goes. Pours a fairly clear, dark orange appearance with a nice off white head. Holiday minty, light veggie, fairly spicy, toasty malty aroma. Tangy, somewhat fruity, very earthy bitter hoppy, quite herbal, somewhat minty, spicy flavor. Kind of interesting - probably better fresher but not my thing.

500ml bottle. Clear orangey golden colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, white head. Floral and cautious fruity aroma with a tangerine note, grainy undertones. Taste is grainy, minimally fruity, hints of green apple, bitter hoppy overtones.

Lively golden ale with a thick, frothy white head. Slightly sweet aroma of hops and the flavour is very hoppy too with a mild tangy edge. I wouldn’t say it’s anything especially memorable but it’s VERY drinkable.
