An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Production moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.

500ml bottle, re-rated 28/06/2014 after cellaring for over a year. Served chilled. Clear orangey amber colour, bubbly tan foam head and aroma of malt, light spice, orange citrus hop. Taste is malt, caramel with fruity, woody, light citrus notes and a peppery bitter finish. Smoothish mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry lingering bitter at the finish. More rounded, still very drinkable.
Initial Rating 3.9 on 12/01/2012. 500ml bottle. Clear orangey copper amber colour with an initial bubbly tan head leaving some lacing, and malt aroma with just a hint of citrus hop. Taste is bitter with malt, slight fruity notes, through to a peppery finish. Medium bodied with a velvety smooth mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

Pours amber into an English pint. White head with excellent retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Sour caramel aromas. Soft with caramel and nuts upfront turning to mild bitter earth in the lasting finish.

Pours a deep clear golden color with a huge bubbly white head that persists forever. The aroma is quite fruity with a touch of caramel malt backbone. Fruity yeast esters with a hint of sulfur and a touch of toffee round out the nose. Mild sulfur mineral water flavor with a solid shot of hop bitterness. Sweet juicy fruits mixed with toffee, caramel, brown sugar and a hint of butterscotch. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet mineral mouthfeel. Nice beer, but its a bit of a stretch to call it an IPA, or maybe its just my American hop fried palette.

500 ml bottle - Bright orange colour topped by a huge beige head. Toasted malt nose with hints of apples and a spicy mustard. Malty flavour has an spicy, peppery hop undertone. Quite good.

Bottle at home 28th September 2012. This is kind of as I expected, too fizzy, aroma is metallic and a biggish head, taste is reasonable, not an ipa as i know it and the over carbonation ruins this brew.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, best before 3/7/2014. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a nice 2-3 finger foamy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. A fair amount of foamy lacing on the glass. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, pine, citrus peel, herbal, floral, grass, nuttiness, pepper, and earth. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and decent strength. Taste of caramel, grapefruit, herbal, pine, floral, grass, bread, pepper, orange, and earth. Fair amount of earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, citrus, pine, herbal, grass, pepper, bread, and earth on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of flavors; minimal cloying flavors on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a lightly creamy and very crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming present on the finish. Overall this is a very good English IPA! Nice balance and flavor complexity; very smooth to drink. Very enjoyable.

(bottle) Slightly hazy copper with large slightly off-white head. Pleasant aroma with notes of caramel and spice. Medium bodied with excellent carbonation with both a bit of bright fizziness and a creamy mouthfilling finer carbonation. Flavour is a nice well-balanced fairly rich mix of malt and hops with notes of caramel and spice with a nice bitter finish. An excellent beer.

Towering fluffy head on amber body. Tastes like a typical English ale, nice mellow bitterness with a lingering aftertaste. A decent British offering
