The origin of our Russian Imperial Stout is situated in Zaandam. For this we go back to the year 1697. It is in this year that Russian Tsar Peter I in Zaandam lived and worked as a carpenter. To emphasize the Russian-Dutch relationship, we enriched the beer with 'Zaanse Cocoa'.

Huge light brown shiny lasting head. Good cling. Deep red barely translucent body, made hazy from floaties. Deep sweet harmonic aroma is a mix of alcohol, wild berries, and licorice, surprisingly light, with earthy, herbal notes. Frist impression is licorice and chocolate, but very thin, followed by soapy, peppery notes. Some herbs and earth, too. There is very little taste, though, and it feels strangely light and thin, and even a bit acidic. Seems like it was most likely lightly infected in the bottle. Should rerate. (0.33l bottle from De Gekraakte Ketel, Amsterdam. BBD Feb ’09.)
