Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - dark brown to black and opaque. Lovely deep beige head. Nose - chocolate and a raisin fruit cake. Taste - more chocolate and this time the fruit is fresher. Fairly obvious berries. It becomes more like a blackberry compote on the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long, elegant finish. Overall - delicious rich beer. Has elements of old ale style going on.

Cask @ Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Black-brown with a frothy off-white head. Has a sticky-sweet texture with a strength. It’s fruits are light, but subdue any dark and roasted malts. There’s only a hint of the latter in its nose.

Draft at Craft100 April 2016 - Craft Beer Co Clapham, London. Cheers, guys! Pours mostly clear brown with a creamy, beige head. The nose holds light roast, chocolate and dark fruits. Medium sweet flavour with rich berry character, some more chocolate, light earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Nicely balanced in the finish, with further cocoa and berries. Really good stuff.
