Fusion 16 is the latest in a series of quasi-experimental seasonal offerings produced by Lagunitas. The brewery tells us they were thinking of winter turning to spring when they decided this would be an appropriate beer for spring training baseball, hence their “Grandslammer” definition.

Tap. Pours a clear golden yellow with a medium white creamy head and nice lacing. Aroma is citrus and light passionfruit. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet and lightly bitter - not quite up to the promise of the aroma. Light body, somewhat watery in the mouth. Kind of like Daytime in that it has a great hop base that it cannot quite live up to in the flavor, but given that it is a 3.6% beer, this is pretty impressive. I could see myself dropping a six pack of this on a summer day in the yard.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours brassy gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is sort of floral grapefruit. Med minus body. Flavor is lightly perfumey grapefruit with a little light malt. It’s very pleasant in a light way, and certainly has a lot of hoppy bitter. It almost gives a hop burn. Should be excellent session ale if it ever gets into wide distribution.
