Brewed only once a year on December 6th, Samichlaus is aged for 10 months before bottling. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, in particular with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself.

Bottle from Bottle Baron. Clear ruby body with a thin off-white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of treacle, Marmite, earth and prunes. Flavour of toffee, cigar, honey, raisins and dark chocolate. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Rich and boozy. A beast of a beer.

Bockleywine (copyright pending, my friends). This brewery seems to specialize in 3% and 14% beers, a curious combo. Slightly harsh aftertast

330ml bottle. (2017 vintage) Pours a clear orange-amber with a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, fig, raisin, prune, toffee, alcohol and wood. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, toffee, raisin, fig, apricot, honey, red wine, spice and wood in a dry, alcohol warming finish. Medium to full body with a syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Nice complexity. A tasty sipper.

Good, but I suspect older would be better...

330ml bottle at home, 2016 version. Pours clear dark brown with an off white head. Aroma: caramel, raisins, sherry. Taste: heavy sweet, dark fruits, prunes, toffee, brown sugar. Medium bodied, light carb, sweet liqueur like finish. Not hugely boozy given the lofty ABV, thought it was nicely balanced overall

0,33 bottle. Ajándékba kaptam, köszönöm. A habja gyorsan eltűnt, a színe sötét borostyán, sötét-félbarna. Picit savanykás illata van a karamell mellett, egyébként mazsolás, aszalt gyümölcsös. Az alkohol illatra és ízre is érződik. Utóízre nagyon sok aszalt gyümölcsfélét érezni, szirupos, extra édes. Igazi karácsonyi sör. Karácsonykor is ittam. Komoly cucc.

I received it as a gift, thank you. His foam quickly disappeared, his color dark amber, dark semi-brown. It has a slightly sour smell next to the caramel, otherwise raisins, dried fruit. Alcohol can be smelled and tasted. Aftertaste to feel a lot of dried fruit, syrupy, extra sweet. Real Christmas beer. I also drank at Christmas. It’s worth a try, but for me it’s a little too syrupy and I really feel like alcohol. Of course, since they're double, I'd drink it anytime. I think I need to taste it again, I was very full already before it was time.

Transparent ruby red. Slightest hint of lace, immediately disappearing. Aroma has a dominant, sweet, caramel base, notes of liqueur, dried red fruits. Averagely intense (i was expecting something a bit stronger actually) and nicely clean. Taste has a strong caramel base, liqueur, dried red fruits, nutmeg. Strong, warming alcohol presence throughout, still enough in check. Again, surprisingly not too intense and possibly a bit too much on the sweet side. Dense bodied with very low carbonation, full but still quite smooth mouthfeel. Not bad, just didn't feel too interesting or refined.

Bottle, 0.33l. Deep amber pour, no head. Very thin layer on top. Heavy malt on the nose, loaded with caramel and candy. Judging by the nose alone, this one is going to be strong on the sweet side. Full body, soft carbonation. Thick, oily texture. Creamy mouthfeel. Taste is as expected, quite sweet but thankfully not cloying. Aroma of caramel and toffee, molasses, sugar. Herbal liquor, vague honey. Quite syrupy, mildly sticky. Notable warming alcohol presence, not so agressive in aroma itself. Medium lasting finish, sweet with some boozy notes. Overall, pretty good. It might be too sweet for some, though. Still, enjoyable brew to savor slowly on cold winter evenings. Nice one.
