An English style barleywine aged for 6 months in New World Distillery whisky barrels (ex-Pedro Ximenez), then aged for a further 8 months to allow the beer to find itself. This beer is a decadent example of the style, with luscious whisky notes complemented perfectly by the huge malt character. Perfect for drinking on a cold winters night, now or in a few years.

Pours copper with an off-white head.Nose shows heavy malt, figs, sultanas and port.Flavours include more heavy sweet malt, oxidised sherry notes, sultanas and prunes. No sign of the 14.6%, very nicely done.

Bottle, 13C. Clear bronze with a pale beige head that lasts very well and laces nicely. A layer of sediment adheres to the bottom of the bottle. Huge aroma of toffee, raisins, fresh dates, whisky, oak, orange peel, fruit cake spices. Sticky, low carbonation. Sweet and very rich with toffee, some dark Sherry and/or light oxidation, vanilla, raisins, dates. Spices and orange peel creep up to lift away the sweetness. Boozy but not brashly so. Whisky is not particularly prominent and it comes across as very English. Muscular but gracious. Excellent.
