Bottle from the brewery brought back by a colleague. Clear deep amber lasting white head. Decent malt. Some vague hop on the finish. . Malts are decent but could be fuller. Drinkable though

Beautiful strong bitter, clear amber in color with small beige head. Nice peaty, malty aroma, mellow bitterness in taste and palate, hints of caramel and toffee. Delicious.

Bottle from Tesco; Clear light brown pour with white head, sweet malt aroma, tangy bitterness in the taste with mild hop and some caramel. Decent ESB.

Poured a murky brown colour with a thin broken white head and some broken lacing. The aroma is malty with hints of fruit. The flavour is a little spicy, hoppy, medium bitter with loads of malt on the palate. It’s a premium ESB, just as it’s written on the label and a rather good one too!

500 mL bottle shared at the 18th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering. Thanks to a friend for picking this up for me when she went to England. Pours a clear golden color with nearly no head. Aroma of toasted malts, toffee, floral hops. The taste is toasted malts, caramel and bitter herbal hops. Medium bodied, refreshing, soft carbonation.

Weak barley malt nose. Clear amber, medium yellow head. Barley malt and honey. Clover finish. Ethereally creamy mouthfeel.

500ml bottle, best before 30 Jun 2011, reviewed 22 Aug 2010. Poured twice into my ’La Chouffe’ stemmed tulip (because it is my current favourite tasting glass): Deep brown, dark amber in colour with an off-white, dirty cream coloured foaming head. Good, thick lacing was produced on each pour as the beer level sank down the glass. The aroma was of warm semi-sweet brown bread malts, Christmas spices and plenty of hops. In short it had the smell of a good Winter Warmer. The taste carried on with the Winter Warmer trends, spicey, warming and rich in malts, the hop content hiding behind the alcoho,l which came through as the beer warmed in the glass. The body was full and wholesome, the beer far too easy to drink, the 5.6%ABV isn’t full in your face, but as mentioned, it does appear as the beer warms, making this a lovely ’fireside’ beer.
