Liefmans Goudenband is one of the most distinctive dark beers in the world. Originally called IJzerenband (Iron Band) – a reference to the iron bands around the beer barrels – the bottle gained its champagne cork when it was renamed Liefmans Goudenband (Gold Band). Made in open vats with beer of mixed fermentation, it is left to mature for four to 12 months in the cellar. Mature beer is then fortified with younger beer, so the fermentation process starts up again.

Bottle at home after a long week and a picanha for dinner. 2022 blend. Medium brown with a tan head, clean nose with brown sugar and balsamic notes. Moderate acidity, not super complex, but it is a well balanced blend of caramel Kandi sugar and barrel-aged woody sour notes.

Bottle from Systembolaget Sweden that I found after 5 years in the wine seller.
Short lasting white head.
Clear very nice aged red wine color.
Small vineger and lactic aroma.
Smooth acidity and a bit caramell taste too give a dark maltiness. Low bitterness and a medium to firm body.

Bottle at home. Pours brownish copper with thin head. Nose is vineous notes, light vinegar acidity, dark sugar. Taste is moderately sour, lightly funky and somewhat sweet notes of brett, wood, red wine and malts. Closes with light funk, some sweetness. Light body, soft to average carbo. Could have stronger and more sophisticated sour and funky notes and a somewhat more pronounced wouldnt hurt either.

Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of sour cherry, vinegar, oak, overripe fruits, yeast. Taste is vinous, medium sour. This is a wonderfully balanced sour ale, enjoyed it a lot.
