Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well.

Pours clear orange with off white head. Strong citrus aromas of grapefruit and orange. Big grapefruity flavor with some malt to back it up. Flavor was a litttle disappointing after smelling the great aromas. Medium body with average carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. A good DIPA, but not one of my favorites, There is something about the Weyerbacher beers that just doesn’t appeal to me.

Hoppy is the word. A lot of it. Color is golden, hints of orange peel. Thick head, light taste, smooth on the palate. Lagunitas Maximus comes to mind for hoppiness.

Bottle. Golden amber with a large head. Aroma of grapefruit... lotsa hops! Taste: Very hoppy: pine, grapefuit, soap. A nice brew.

12 oz bottle. Aroma of grapefruit citrus. Strong aroma. Reddish amber color with a decent beige head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is a lot of grapefruit hop, but there is detectable caramel sweetness. The finish is more piney than grapefruit, and it is not dry. It’s truly balanced. That’s so rare. This is an exceptionally tasty ale.

12oz bottle. Murky amber-orange color. Nice frothy head. Fresh citrus aroma. Big, chewy, and intensely hoppy, with a sticky sweet aftertaste. A lot of Earthy hop character. A great Double IPA.

Hazy orangey-golden. Drool...deep rich orangey, yuzu-y simcoe nose. I like that. Rich, resiny, orangey...just some good clean IPA fun. Solid pale malt underpinning is perfect. Slightly sticky finish.

bottle at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours copper with a big white head. It has a pleasant grapefruit hop aroma. The flavor, as one should expect with this style, is intensely bitter and continues through to a long, hoppy finish. It’s an excellent beer though not the best double IPA I’ve had.

Bottle at Winking Lizard. The beer is a slightly cloudy copper color with a medium off-white head that has decent retention. Thin rings of lacing. Nice citrusy hops aroma with notes of toasted grain and pine. Medium-bodied with a pleasant floral hops character. Flavors of malt, tart berries and spices are present as well. The finish is dry and hoppy and leaves a balanced sweetness and bitterness behind. Overall this is a very enjoyable IIPA.

Bottle, 22oz. (RBNAG 07) At the moment I poured it and inhaled the piney, fruity and malty-sweetish aroma, I knew it deserved it’s score. It is one of those delicious too-much-of-everything beers so few manage to make really good. It has a unclear, golden-orange body with a beige head, and the flavor has the same malty sweetness, borderlining beef-stock that the aroma has. Of course there’s also lots of hops, giving a piney, citrusy and fruity flavor, and those lasts all the way to the next sip. So do the sweetness as well. A full-bodied beer I will be happy to have again. Great thanks to the great trader the_epeeist for providing the bottle. (071103)

The flavor is very good: excellent malt and toffee combination, strong body, enough residual sweetness, resiny hops. The final has more hop presence, not only resiny but also sweaty. Not fresh, but very good.

Good body strength, powerful malt, sweet, with an extreme but very good hopping, aromatic, fruity (orange peels), resiny; ends with an impression of rhubarb. And of course the final is very long.
