Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well.

660ml bottle @ RBNAG’07. Hazy orange body with a nice, medium off-white head. Aroma is lots of citrus hops and some hay. Flavor is sweet malty with a distinct fruity bitter hoppyness, warming alcohol. Very harmonic with a long pleasant bitter finish.

Pours a clear beautiful copper with off white head. The aroma has a big hop punch of grapefruit, tangelo, ripe cantaloupe and faint malt sweetness. Nice. The flavor. Wow. Delicious. Initially the taste seems sweet. But the sweetness is fleeting. Then the grapefruit and tangelo hop flavors break through the malt sweetness in a gradual fashion becoming more and more bitter. Very tasty IIPA with just the right mouth feel for the style. Into the finish the grapefruit and tangelo hop bite evens out at an apex of bitterness with faint background sweetness.

Sampled bottle, RBNAG 2007 in Grimstad. ABV was 9%. Amber to orange colour, slightly hazy, decent head. Lovely Simcoe hops aroma. Distinctly hoppy flavour throughout, considerable sweetness but not bad.

Medium shiny offwhite lasting head. Amber body with light carbonation and floating yeast particles. Sugary honeyish grassy citric hoppy aroma with the typical catty simcoe notes. Sweetish malty notes. Dry firm sweet malt and straw taste with medicinal honey notes. Dry medicinal simcoe aftertaste with residual sweetness. Excellent! (0.66l bottle at RBNAG’07.)

12 oz bottle from MrBendo. Pour is reddish orange with a nice off white head. Head is very lasting and the carbonation is visible. Aroma of grapefruit citrus and some earthiness. Taste is really bitter (nice!) grapefruit, really very in your face. The middle fades a bit into a nice malt backbone, but the story with this one is the initial rush of grapefruit. There is a real nice sticky resin to the finish. As it warms, there is a unique spice to the nose I can’t quite place. This was a good one. Thanks for this one Todd!

Bottle via Footbalm - Thanks! Pours a dirty orange color with a modest white head. Thick lacing. Nose is sweet with citrus and caramel malt, the flavor moves from a malty front into fresh florals and grapefruit. Nice caramel malt sweetness is well in balance. Solid I2PA.

This is one of the better Weyerbacher’s I have tried. It has a nice, dark copper color. The hops are bright and abundant, both in the flavor and the aroma. Moderate malt in the flavor as well, a little sweet, balanced by the pine and citrus hop flavors.
