I am not a fan of DIPA but when I have a chance to taste a new one I go for it because you never know what you may encounter, perhaps I’ll come to enjoy one someday. This was on tap at the Bocktown in the Robinson shopping complex. It has a darker hazy orangish brown color. Initially this had a big head but it fades rapidly as it sits. The head eventually appears a tea froth. Very hoppy initial aroma ~ you know you are going to get a taste bud impact just from the smell. I better brace myself. Initial flavor is yeeow, suffering succotash, mow over my taste buds. Bitter oppressive grapefruit rind coat the inside of my mouth. However, although the hoppyness is overwhelming, I do detect some fruitiness in there, something I normally do not encounter in this style. I know this is high alky but the hoppyness covers most any alkyness that may be in there. Bitterness is just to much for my girlie taste buds. Medium low carbonation. The finish of this beer is long lingering acrid qualities that every IPA lover will enjoy. Won’t quit, keeps going and going like the energizer bunny. Somebody please give me an Old Heathen to chase this down with. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this style. I’m sorry but I don’t have enough experience to rate by style, so I go with how much I like it.
