Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well.

Bottle at Brauhaus Schmitz, Philly - 21/05/12. Dark amber with a slight chill haze big creamy head. Full on piney hops with a caramel/biscuit malt background. Taste as nose but the hops come through in a very bitter way. I didn’t think too highly of the balance in this one! Medium to full body approaching chewy but in a good way.

(Bottle, 0.355 l - bottled on 9 Feb 2012, from Drink Shop, Tallinn, 20120713) The beer poured brown and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, resin and fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, resin, grass, fruitiness, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, hoppy and bitter. Alchohol was pushing through a bit too heavily but otherwise a very well balanced double IPA.

On tap at Sorbon. Hazy, amber liquid with small to medium off-whte head. Aroma of blackberries, tangerine, grapefruit, sweet caramel malt and some english fruity esters. Taste is light sweet and medium to high bitter with fruity esters and simcoe hops. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. A bit too malt forward for my taste.

Draft @ Yard House, Boston- Fenway. Served in pint. Dark amber pour with a big frothy head that left tons of lace. Fruity, hoppy, malty with pine scent. Sweet caramel up front, followed by juicy citrus fruit. Lots of malt. Toffee notes. Big piney resinous finish that lingers long after the sip is gone. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied, sticky, oily texture. If you like big, piney hop bombs, you really should enjoy this. Great DIPA.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 11/15/2017. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy reddish orange color with a 1 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big mango, peach, pineapple, apricot, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big mango, peach, pineapple, apricot, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of mango, peach, pineapple, apricot, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/sticky, and slightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 9% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV, with the modestly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Very juicy and lightly dank hop complexity; sizable malty backbone, but not overly sweet for a DIPA. A really enjoyable offering.
