A coal black stout with the expected caramels and roast chocolate malty flavour. Seven malts and 3 hops make this 4% beer something to be savoured

Bottle shared by Grumbo. Aroma is cardboard, malty, fruity, bready, chocolate, roasted and ashy. Very good body and followed through nicely. Nice roasted bitterness to finish. Very good.

Panda at home, thanks to Graham Grumbo, 14/09/24. Black with a tan head that thins to the edge. Nose is chocolate, charr, roast malts, dried fruit rinds. Taste comprises cocoa powder, chocolate biscuit, charr, roasted bite, dried fruit.s Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Decent enough stout.

24/6/2024. Bottle bought at the Brewery. As Onyx Dragon. Pours clear mahogany brown with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, ashy, dark fruit notes. Moderate sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Good body for its 4.0%, quite smooth, average to soft carbonation. Dry roasted finish. Best of the Sandstone beers. Label now describes it as an Outstanding Black Welsh ‘Stout’. It’s pretty decent.

Cask @ Old Harkers Arms, Chester. Black with a smooth texture and smooth off-white creamy head. Has a light roasted chocolate aroma but not carried through to its taste.
