Dark reddish brown, thick off white head. Malty, fruity aroma. Flavour has dried fruit, sweet malt, sugar, honey, a little hop. Nice body, nice balance and very drinkable.

Bottle from Tomlinson’s Beer Shop in Inverness. Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate and cola. Moderate sweetness, heavier roasted bitterness. Medium/full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Decent without being exceptional.

Bottle, from Tomlinsons, on the train from Inverness to Hereford 21/10/13. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a thin tan covering/swirl. Nose is dark fruits, liqourice, brown sugars, treacle toffee, hint of smoke, Xmas cake, light boozey waftings. Taste comprises charred wood, light spice, raisens, Xmas cake, treacle toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze coated sweet finale. Decent for this made up style, fairly complex, more akin to a Belgian dubbel.

Bottle from Tomlinson’s via Colin. It pours darkest brown/near black with a small light tan head. The nose is toast, roasted malt, spice, dark fruit, scorched earth, cola cubes, liquorice and molasses. The taste is roasty, toast, earth, cola, candy, tangy dark fruit, wood, vinous, light spice, liquorice and some alcohol warmth with a dry finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Good depth of flavour and rather nice Belgian character. Probably Six Degrees North best beer to date.

Keg menu at the Hanging Bat, 1/3 pint. Pitch black body, naked surface, dotted spots to the glassware. Malts and dried fruits to the notes, hint of rhubarb. Bittersweet jam-like taste profile of anise, caramel, dried fruits and rhubarb. Fresh malt-fruity ending. Masked alcohol. Very tasty (Edinburgh 08.08.2013).

Aroma: Brown sugar, Belgian yeast, raisins, banana and spice.
Appearance: Black body with no head. Almost no lacing.
Taste: Very tangy and fruity - juicy plum, banana and raisin. Hint of booze, but not too harsh. Toffee in there too. Reminds me of Christmas pudding. Delicious and complex.
Palate: Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Lively carbonation.
Overall: Their best, most interesting beer so far - it’s packed full of rich flavours. However, if Six Degrees North truly want to replicate the best Belgian beers, the mouthfeel of their beers needs to be slightly fuller and they need to learn how to produce massive frothy heads.

Keg at the Bat. Pours hazy amber-brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of Belgian yeast and sweet malts, toffee. Light sweetness on the flavour, well balanced by yeast notes and light hop bitterness. Medium bodied, bit slick in the mouth. Good beer though.
