Cask at Flowerpot, Derby. Pours a deep golden yellow with a small off-white head. The alcoholic strength is very evident in the nose, along with general citrus. Plenty of alcohol in the mouth too, with a creamy, slightly oily texture. Flavours of tangerine, apricot and floral hops are evident too leading to a dry and bitter finish. Bit of a hard one to categorise, “strong ale” seems like a cop out. How about “imperial golden ale” ? Anyway, it’s a good beer for sipping.

Slight haze with an off white head. Tropical fruit and citrus aroma and taste also light fruity sweet, and a long bitter finish. Full body.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Hazy, dark orange. Lots of little floaters sticking to the glass. Good, messy, very sticky, lasting, cream coloured head. Looks the bees. Nose has orange flavoured, boiled sweets. Strawberries and cream. Some tangy, grapey hop spice. Backdrop of sweet, digestive biscuit malts. Subtle but complex. Taste is fruity, pulpy, citrus sweet. Light, herby bitter. Medium to full body. Foamy mouthfeel. Gets fruity, pithy, tangy bitter on the finish. Treads a line between old school and new wave fantastically well. Took me by surprise this one. Lovely.

500ml bottle from Real Ale Corner, Brampton - Bright and hazy yellow body, thick lacing white head. A heavy grapefruit bite and aroma, some kumquat, apricots, mandarin and tropical citrus. I could go on and list the rest of the fruits I’m picking up, but I won’t - I’m just going to enjoy it.
