Named after the nearby area of Iron Gate in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter, this premium strength dry stout gets an antipodean flavour from large doses of Pacific Gem hops. Strong, dark and delicious; one of the original Black Iris range.

Cask-conditioned at the Cornubia, Bristol April 2013. Jet black with a slight, off-white head. Big toasted malts, plain chocolate and hint of liquorice before a hoppy, dryish finish. Very good.

Cask, gravity at Oxford Beer Festival, Fri 28th Oct 2011 I hope that I’ve got the style right with this one, sorry if not. Dark brown pour with a light beige head. Nice earthy flavour’s but there is a good persistent hoppy streak throughout. Touch rustic but very likeable, finish is a little dry, tasty, really tasty. Difficult to rate stood up with glass, programme etc in hands as well. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov16 3.6
