This is a dark Munich style lager with hints of chocolate and nuts. It is medium-bodied, not too sweet, lightly hopped, and has a very slight fruitiness

Bottle from Cornelius. It pours hazy deep brown with a thick off-white head. The nose is malt - driven, bitter - sweet, brown bread, fruit cake, toffee, chocolate, dried fruits and earth. The taste is rich, brown bread, earth, wood, lightly toasted nuts, must, touch of spice, fruit cake, cacao nibs and chewy malt with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Decent malty beer, but lacks the wow factor many of their beers have.

On cask at the Hanging Bat. Appearance - dark brown to black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - toffee, brown sugar and light raisins. Taste - more of the same. Light cardboard note on there. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - solid.

Cask at the Hanging Bat. Pours clear chestnut brown with a persistent beige head. Aromas of tea and toast, light fruit notes. Taste has some tannins, more fruit. Dry finish.

Cask at The Hanging Bat. Deep mahogany body with a medium beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of brown bread, tea and weak filter coffee. Flavour of caramel, toast and Marmite. Thin body with a slick, oily texture. I really struggled to detect any aroma. And the flavour is pretty muted too. Is this a Mild?

500ml bottle, many thanks to JohnRMurdoch. Rocky beige head that receded to a remaining layer. Unclear, dark organge coloured body. Juicy malts on the nose, hints of berries. Blended taste of mid-sweet dark malts, blackcurrant, nuts and apricot. Subdued hoppy endnotes. Medium bodied. Quite alright (hotel room, Edinburgh 11.08.2013).

Bottle from Beer Hive, Edinburgh [310513]
Caramel brown, clear, thin bubbly off white head, not much lacing
Aroma - Very fruity malts, red berries, touch of raspberry, hedgerow fruits, big fruity aroma
Taste - Fruity malts, red berried, dab of caramel toffee, touch of chocolate, subtle but actually quite complex for the abv
Palate - Medium carb, light body, little over carbonated, smooth. Finish as main flavour, more chocolate comes through in the finish
Overall - Has a strong fruity aroma, taste has more chocolate malts that become more dominant in the finish. I’m not sure this is a dark lager at all, but it’’s an interesting, innovative, quite complex rather quirky brew. I like it.
