Suomen palkituin olut. Musta väriltään, kuohkea espressomainen vaahto, raikas mäntypihkainen havumetsien tuoksu. Jälkimaussa napakka humalan puraisu, joka on tasapainossa mallaspohjan kanssa.

On tap @ Panimoravintola Bruuveri, Helsinki. Dark brown, almost black body with a small tan head. Nice aroma of roasted, dark malt, coffee and dry fruit, slightly vinous. Flavor has dark, nice roasted sweet malt, coffee, dark chocolate, dry fruit and fine bitterness. Fine balanced body with a solid aftertaste. Smooth and nice, so balanced that it feels less alcoholic and bitter than described.

Pitch black colour, beige head. Aroma of hops, reminding of Sorachi Ace. Malts. Sweet flavour, roasted malts, bitter hops, coffee. Bitter finish, coffee, caramel and hops.

Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, thanks to the Leightonator, 04/11/14. Light black with a decent tan covering that dissipates retaining as spotting and edgework. Nose is rich dark fruits, light smoke, bitter roast, earthy, cocoa rub. Taste comprises light booze, spice, earthy cocoa, dark fruit rinds, liqourice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Decent enough impy but fell a little short of my expectations based on its score!

Bottle shared in London - picked up via trade. The nose has some toasted malts, dry cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with some scorched earth, dried fruits, dusty cocoa. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with some torched malts, baking cocoa, roast, earth, more dried dark fruits. Pretty decent.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is sweet, vanilla, treacle, candy, dark fruits, toasty brown sugar, toffee and such like. The taste is toasty, rich roasty, cherry cola, earth, charred stuff, tar, wood, leaf, light pepper with a dry finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Alright. Salty liquorice.

12oz bottle via Summer Secret Santa 2014. Pours a murky, opaque black with a ring of lacing, creamy, beige head. Nose has plenty of licorice and rubber, some black pepper, molasses, some roast mushroom, some pen ink, a little bit of liquid smoke. Flavor has some interesting caramelized onion and barbecue sauce notes, plenty of malt obviously, some molasses, a little smoke, some mild charcoal, some squid ink, some industrial notes, a little burnt plasitc. Full bodied, but not as sweet as I anticipated. A nice, big, roasty, filling stout.

One of several splendid beers inspired by the Pikkulintu pub in Helsinki and probably the first real imperial stout in Finland. Dark beige head, blackish colour and profoundly malty, complex aroma of coffee beans, chocolate, candied dates and brandy; deep malty taste, sharpish, full of character, with sourish accent and powerful roasted bitterness along with warming, but not astringent alcohol in the finish. Powerful and impressive, a great example of the style.

Bottle [thanks to tiong] shared with Dutchdrebus, Joes, Ansjelaah and Martinus @ weekly tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized beige to slightly light brown head that leaves fair lacing and lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, hops, even a touch of fruits, only slightly roasty. Taste malts, light to moderately roasty, superb bitterness, hops. Damn, this is a very nice beer!
