Bottle from Lidl, now at 4% so a fair drop. Black pour with nice creamy tanned head. Roast malt and chocolate aroma with a slight dustiness and hints of sweetness. Taste follows with light brown sugar sweetness, light ash and smoke in finish. Light bodied. Rich and sweet. Good.

Bottle from Lidl @ 4% ABV. Jet black in colour, with a very thick, and creamy, beige head. Aromas of plain chocolate, dark fruit and oak. Flavour had some brown sugar, berries, more chocolate and some light toastiness in the finish. Enjoyable and easy drinking.

Creamy light brown head on a still black body. Malt & chocolate aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & soft with a tingle on the back. Chocolate, malt, biscuit & berry tastes with a bitter finish. Decent Stout.

Bottle from Lidl. Label: ‘ Oatmeal & Chocolate Christmas Stout’. Pours black with a medium sized thick creamy beige head. Aromas of milk chocolate, roasted malts and a little coffee. Taste has roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, a hint of nuts with an ashy and slightly bitter finish. Thinnish body and a fair amount of carbonation. Average Stout. Not bad.

Bottle from Aldi. It pours jet black with a rugged tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, earthy roast, coffee grounds, cocoa, unami and toasted bread. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, cacao nibs, woody, coffee grounds and a touch of liquorice with a toasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very well rounded and highly drinkable. Quite a classy number.

On tap @ the Haymarket Bar. Pours opaque black with a nice crema. The nose is of biscuits, toffee and chocolate. The taste is much the same with the biscuits coming through particularly. The palate has a medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly elegant finish. Overall, a good ale.
