"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.

This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the ’Hand’ brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured thick and black with a trace tan head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was malty and sweet with wood, dark fruits, anise, chocolate and a boozy presence that worked well. The aroma was amazingly malty with biscuit, wood, marshmallow, chocolate. anise, cream, candied dark fruits and roasty coffee beans. Marvelously rich and complex. Long finish with lingering marshmallow, cream, chocolate, anise, candied dark fruits and booziness. Full bodied. Outstanding!

Bottle at home. 3 year old. The colour is pitch black and has a light brown, huge head. Coffee in the aroma along with smoke, dark chocolate, campfire, forest floor and brownies. The flavour follows up but has more rostedness, coffee and burned wood. Has a slick and rich mouth feel, and a light to medium bitterness. A fantastic complex and compact flavour in this imperial stout. Balanced and with a nice smokey touch.

Drought. Very dark brown with small creamy dark tan head that dissipates quickly, cherry-chocolate aroma, low carbonation, sweetish cherry taste mixed with bitter mocha, ending with an unfortunate cough syrup flavor. I am not very much impressed with this.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks kerenmk. Black with a big brown head. Roasty aroma of coffee, burnt wood and a bit of cocoa. Bittersweet roasty flavor with coffee, some chocolate, a smoky note and an ashy burnt finish. Rather full-bodied, well-carbonated (a bit too carbonated for the style).

Bottle: Pours purple/black with a dark brown head. Strong dark fruit, chocolate aroma. Oatmeal, chocolate, raisin flavour. Roasty, yet very sweet. Not exactly a typical Imperial, but really nice tasting and rich. Heavy fruit, blackberry cobbler taste increases as it warms.... Delicious.
