"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.
This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the ’Hand’ brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

Tap @CBC16. Black with thick beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast and light hints of smoke.Flavour has coffee, raost and dark chock. A litle thin considering the aroma, had expected more. Long, coffee bitter finish. Ok.

Bottle with expiry date 07.2017. Aroma is quite intensive dark chocolate, some wood, a bit of ash, a bit of hops. Alcohol not very well hidden. Full body. Lack smoothness. A bit disappointing when compared to other beers from this brewery. This is definitely not an exceptional imperial stout.

Catch up rating from Saturday’s RIS bottle share. Big, bold and dark, tasty bitter roast grains, hints of alcohol warmth peeping through. Another keeper out of the lot of 160 bottles.

An Imperial Wheat Stout I had years ago but whose rating I lost. I do recall I had it on tap & was impressed. Bottle Batch 671 brewed in October 2013, served in a snifter. Pouring a deep black with ruby highlights when held to the light and possessing a rusty tan head of foam that dissipates quickly. It has a fruity nose of raisins, smoked maple, dark chocolate with a bit of roastiness to it. Think a really nice dark chocolate cake. Incredibly full luscious mouthfeel, supremely creamy almost like marshmallows! That’s just nuts. The taste is sharply sweet, some oxidized sherry notes, big bitter dark cacao in the 70-80% range, a hint of fruit and quite a lot of heat burning it’s way down my throat while the finish gives me that smokey maple character. Really good stuff though I believe I like it better when I had it on tap at the old Tadg’s.
